about
Sand is the essential building block of modern civilization. It is all around us. In our buildings, in the concrete we walk on, in the windows we look through.
In Zand, I put a magnifying glass on the grains of sand to create a space to wander. From crackling grains to colossal layers of sound and back again. By tilting the perception of size and approaching sand from different perspectives, I explore how we relate to the smallest grains in a larger perspective in search of a listening mode with an ear to the earth.
Zand is originally composed as a 4-channel composition. All sounds are based on recordings of different variations of sand and field recordings in dunes.
